Summer 2020 Camp Discovery COVID-19 Update
Changes to Camp Discovery’s Summer 2020 Session
With the health and safety of our campers in mind, The Discovery is proceeding with its Camp Discovery program in summer 2020. To safely welcome campers to the museum this summer, the following changes will be implemented:
To provide increased space for camps and campers, The Discovery will be open Monday through Friday for Camp Discovery only. No general admission will be allowed. Campers will be dispersed throughout the building to help maintain appropriate physical distancing.
Morning and afternoon kindergarten camps have been combined into full-day camps. Half-day camps have been eliminated to minimize the number of campers and caregivers connected to the program.
Each day, all campers and the caregivers who drop them off for camp will be required to undergo a temperature screening.
Caregivers will be required to acknowledge, in writing, that they are symptom-free, have no known COVID-19 exposure, have not traveled outside Washoe County in the past 14 days (while travel is restricted by State of Nevada), and have abided by current social distancing guidelines.
Camp Discovery educators will be required to wear face masks at all times. Parents are encouraged to have their campers wear a mask to camp. The Discovery will make masks available to campers who do not have them.
Camp Discovery staff will maintain an increased level of sanitation in camp spaces, including thorough disinfection using EPA-approved cleaners, after every activity.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Additional information and answers to specific questions about changes to camps in response to the COVID-19 pandemic can be found in our Camp Discovery COVID-19 FAQ.
The Discovery is closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in our region. If the situation changes and we are not able to offer camps due to a change in guidelines from the CDC or Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, registrants will have the option to transfer to a later camp session or receive a full refund.
