If you’ve ever ventured into Camp Discovery, you’ve felt the energy and joy that Sean Davies, Assistant Camp Coordinator, brings to the program. With his enthusiasm for inspiring curiosity and his conviction for hands-on learning, Sean is a force behind the camp experience. Now in his fourth summer with The Discovery, he continues to inspire campers through exploration, creativity, and play.
A native Renoite, Sean earned his degree in Anthropology and Museum Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno. Outside of The Discovery, he works as a computer science teacher for the Washoe County School District and has also supported individuals with disabilities through a local nonprofit.
Sean helps manage the daily operations of Camp Discovery, working closely with Camp Educators to ensure the camps run smoothly and that campers have a wonderful time. His work includes refining the curriculum, leading activities, and supporting both campers and staff.
“My favorite part of the job is watching kids light up as they engage in activities,” Sean said. “They might think they’re just having fun, but behind the scenes, there’s a strong STEM foundation built into everything they’re doing. Watching them make those connections is what makes it all worthwhile.”
Sean was drawn to The Discovery because of its interactive approach to learning and commitment to inclusive education. He’s also a fan of the museum’s exhibits, confessing he enjoys them as much as the visitors do.
Looking forward, Sean hopes The Discovery continues to grow beyond its museum walls.
“I’d love to see us bring these kinds of experiences to more schools and communities that may not otherwise have access,” he said. “The Discovery has a unique role to play in making science learning accessible and joyful for everyone.”
His passion for education and inclusion is palpable. “At the heart of my role is a commitment to making each camper’s experience the best it can be,” Sean said. “I’m fortunate to work with a team that’s incredibly kind, creative, and driven by a shared sense of purpose.”
Whether he’s guiding a camper through a new concept, crafting fun science activities, or sharing moments of discovery, his enthusiasm is genuine. Sean embodies the ethos of The Discovery, inviting everyone to experience wonder, creativity, and inspiration.
