Strategic Objectives — how we pursue our aspiration in the next 3-5 years
• Make every person feel valued
• Enhance visitor perspectives through STEAM experiences
• Reach more people, more often, in more ways
• Create financial strength
In the short amount of time since The Discovery opened to the public, the museum has established itself as an invaluable community asset for learners of all ages. The Discovery continues to serve its visitors with a broad range of opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) concepts through hands-on exhibits and educational programming not offered anywhere else in Northern Nevada.
However, our work has only just begun. A hands-on science museum like The Discovery is a constantly changing laboratory that must adapt to the needs and educational pursuits of its community. With every new program and exhibition, The Discovery fulfills its mission to create interest and engagement in science for learners of all ages. In the coming years, The Discovery will strive to achieve its strategic objectives by employing these four strategies:
Continually improve core functionalities
Improve the museum’s core functionalities to support the growth of the organization and provide a consistently high visitor experience.
Increase tourist visitation by 5%
The Discovery will look to tap into our region’s resurging tourism market in order to grow admissions revenue.
Increase capacity for high-margin activities
Staff and volunteer resources will be deployed in a way that will maximize the fiscal impact of the museum’s key high-margin programs.
Staff and volunteer enrichment
Build expertise and capacity by enriching the museum’s staff and volunteer core.
