The Discovery is pleased to announce that Arnie Glassberg joined the museum’s Board of Directors in March.
Arnie spent his entire 37-year career serving students in K-12 schools in California. Starting as a junior high school teacher and counselor, he progressed through the ranks as a special education program specialist, principal, director of instruction, assistant superintendent, business services, and ultimately superintendent. Along the way, he was an assistant professor at the graduate schools of education at four California universities, including the University of California, Berkeley.
After retiring, Arnie continued his commitment to community service. He served as an appointed member of the Board of Directors of the San Leandro Boys and Girls Club; the Master’s degree program for the acting school of American Conservatory Theater (San Francisco), the Reno Philharmonic, and the University of Nevada, Reno Honors College Advocacy Board. In addition, he was an elected member of the Coastside County Water District Board.
In his role on the museum’s board, Arnie plans to work will fellow board members to grow the museum’s endowment.
“My hope is that the future will grow that endowment into a significant ongoing source of funding,” Arnie said. “Stable funding will allow the museum to expand in an effort to create inspiration for an even broader audience of both children and adults.”
Arnie sees Reno as a microcosm of all that is good about our country—a place where fine arts organizations (music, art, The Discovery) thrive. People respect and are kind to one another as the community continues to grow and build a dynamic future. Arnie wants to be a part of all of that.
In his spare time, Arnie loves to travel. He has visited 85 countries so far! He also enjoys time with family and friends, and giving back to the Reno community that has welcomed him so warmly.
