Join our friends from Tahoe Star Tours for a unique opportunity to gaze at Jupiter through computerized Celestron telescopes. Jupiter will be about 367 million miles away and will not be this close to Earth again until the year 2129. As a bonus, Saturn and a crescent Moon will also be visible. On October 14, 2023 people across the western United States will witness the sun disappearing behind the moon, turning daylight into twilight, causing the temperature to drop rapidly, and creating a phenomenon called a ring of fire. Tour the stars in The Discovery’s portable planetarium! Join a member of the museum’s education team for guided shows featuring solar exploration, a journey to Mars, and a trip to our moon. Shows are first come, first served. Showtimes: 11:00am, 11:30am, 12:00pm, 12:30pm, 1:00pm, 4:30pm, 5:00pm, 5:30pm, 6:00pm and 6:30pm. Tickets: Sign up upon arrival at the museum. Capacity is limited to 35 people per show.

Join Tahoe Star Tours and Reno Poet Laureate James Ziegler for the reading and awards presentation for this year’s winners of the Astro-Poetry Contest. Awards will be presented to the winners in three divisions: kindergarten – 2nd grade, 3rd – 6th grades, and 7th – 12th grades.
