Visiting Artist, Ivy Ward will help you create your own Monster Fish inspired work of art using a unique painting technique that results in a 3-D effect. Join Visiting Artist and music teacher, Elizabeth Cadigan, for an exploration into how the movement of air can create beautiful music. Using PVC pipe, you’ll build and decorate your own pan pipe and learn how the varying lengths of pipe create different musical notes. Note: Space is limited and preregistration is required. Visit The Discovery to meet Thomas Darnell, author of “Biggest Little Photographer,” a book featuring photographs Thomas took during the one-year project he began at age 8. Thomas’ book proves what can be done when you combine perseverance, a passion for Legos, and a huge heart—truly a great story of the potential of Reno’s youth. Thomas’ book, “Biggest Little Photographer” is available for purchase in the museum store at The Discovery.

The Martin School of Irish Dance presents reels, jigs, and a repertoire of traditional and modern Irish dance choreography. You can even learn a step or two and impress your friends!

During The Discovery’s participation in the 2017 Midtown Art Walk, tour a pair of Gypsy Getaway Wagons created by artist Jeff Deming. Gypsy Getaway Wagons was created when Jeff needed a quiet and inspiring place to think of the next stage of his life. For years he had run boutique hotels, guest ranches, and various outdoor-oriented hospitality jobs in amazing scenic locations.

Join Visiting Artist, Elizabeth Cadigan for a hands-on concert with a Northern Nevada theme. Audience members will be entertained as they learn about the wildlife, ecosystems and history found within the Black Rock-High Rock Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area and surrounding regions.
