The board and staff at The Discovery are outraged at the senseless and tragic murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and countless other Black people in a disturbing history of systemic injustice in America. As educators and lifelong learners, we must challenge racial inequity and injustice and create a world that celebrates our diversity.
As an organization, we feel that silence is complicity. We believe that human rights are universal and that we must embrace humanity in all of its diversity. Therefore, The Discovery reaffirms its commitment to:
Listen with an open heart and mind to families of every race, religion, and cultural background, so that their contribution is valued.
Build a community that promotes and celebrates diversity and honors the value of every individual.
With humility, we recognize that we exist within a system in which people with privilege inherently benefit at the expense of people of color and those without privilege. We want to change that.
We vow to use our platforms to elevate the voices of the Black community and help shine a bright light on injustice. We endeavor to create change that will help our community and our nation devise a plan to resolve the institutionalized racism that has plagued our country for far too long.
