Closed: Christmas Day There’s always more to discover!
On August 17, 2017, The Discovery proudly hosted Yelpstronomy 3.0. At this event, we welcomed Yelpers to come learn about the science of food and drink, while enjoying bites from some of the best local restaurants in the area. The event was free to Yelpers and their guests, with a suggested donation of $15. As a result, over 500 Yelpers helped raise more than $7,000 to support The Discovery’s mission to inspire by being the place to explore science in Northern Nevada!
Various experts joined the Yelpstronomy festivities to present on topics that satiated both the appetites and curiosity of attendees. Here are a few of the interesting food questions addressed at the event:
Through interactive labs, Yelpers got to take away bite-size pieces of information about some of your favorite cuisines and drinks. For example, Restaurant Trokay held a lab that walked guests through the “Evolution of Cuisine,” complete with a taste-test and explanation of the modernist elements incorporated in their food.
In another lab, Micheal Moberly of Whispering Vine Wine Co. walked Yelpers through the gin making process and offered taste tests of the spirit’s unique character. Everyone had the opportunity to leave with new cocktail recipes to create at home.
At The Discovery, we are always thinking of creative and unique ways to involve people of all ages in the learning that happens here at the museum. A huge thanks to Michael Tragash, local Yelpers, and the sponsors and attendees who made Yelpstronomy 3.0 a tremendous success!
