12:00pm - 5:00pm There’s always more to discover!
On Wednesday, January 11th, the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery) introduced the very first Tech!Night, an evening of hands-on science demos featuring the latest technologies, games, and techniques, hosted in the museum’s Spark!Lab Smithsonian. Supported by a generous grant from the Best Buy Foundation, the first Tech!Night provided The Discovery’s young adult visitors with a unique experience to learn about cutting-edge gadgets and enjoy activities that included:
The Discovery welcomed five local Best Buy representatives for the Tech!Night launch and check presentation. They were excited to encourage Tech!Night attendees to code video games using Scratch, fly drones, work with robots, and much more!
“We’re excited to have the Best Buy Foundation’s support of this program designed to bring new and emerging technology to museum visitors. We are always looking for alignment with community partners in our continuing effort to expand the museum’s educational offerings.”— Mat Sinclair, President/CEO, The Discovery
The purpose of Tech!Night is to place technology directly in the hands of our young museum visitors so that they may become better equipped with the knowledge and experience that is fundamental to the booming industry of technology. The Discovery hopes that providing teens with hands-on science and technology programs like Tech!Night will help inspire curiosity and innovation in the minds of the younger generation.
Moving forward, Tech!Night will be offered on the second Wednesday of every month, catering primarily to children and teens (ages 8-16). Even so, the featured technologies are exciting for people of all ages. Tech!Night is FREE for members of The Discovery, and included in the $5 after 4:00pm admission for nonmembers.
