The Discovery is thrilled to announce the first-ever community mural, happening right here at the museum during the annual Artown festival this July.
At The Discovery, we believe that science and the arts are deeply connected. Both inspire curiosity. Both encourage exploration. And both help us imagine a better future. Whether in a lab, an artist’s studio, or a aircraft hangar, it all starts with a spark of imagination and the courage to explore what’s possible.
The Art of Aviation mural is an example of perfect timing as the aviation theme of the mural aligns perfectly with the museum’s upcoming featured exhibition, Above and Beyond opening May 30.
Above and Beyond celebrates the remarkable history and future of human flight – from space elevators, to fighter jets, to new technologies such as uncrewed aerial vehicles – this technology will take us further into the skies and out into the stars. It’s a story of imagination, ingenuity, and inspiration—and one that truly shows how art and science work hand-in-hand to move our world forward.
Both the mural and the exhibition are generously supported by the George W. Gillemot Foundation, a testament to the deep aviation culture and forward-thinking spirit that define Northern Nevada.
