On Thursday, June 11, The Discovery’s Science Distilled series hosted a showcase of work created by students from the University of Nevada, Reno’s Hitchcock Project for Visualizing Science.
The Hitchcock Project prepares students to combat misinformation and bridge the gap between science and the public through engaging visual storytelling. As part of the project’s second annual travel-based course, students reported in both Spanish and English while working on location at La Selva Research Station in Costa Rica. Their reporting documented the scientific research being conducted through video, photography, audio and writing.
The showcase also included previews of reports student prepared that are included in a special feature on KUNR entitled, “Reporting from the Rainforest.”
Science Distilled, The Discovery’s informal lecture series, makes cutting-edge science approachable through presentations on current and curious topics, held at hip locations in a social atmosphere. Started in 2016, speakers at Science Distilled events have covered topics ranging from genetics to climate change to personal energy independence.
