10:00am - 5:00pm There’s always more to discover!
The Discovery couldn’t function without the talented, dedicated staff who keep things moving every day, and our VSRs (Visitor Service Representatives) are no exception. Aiman Murtaza is one of our incredible VSRs, and we’re very grateful to have her on our team.
Aiman first became aware of the possibility of working for The Discovery during her first year at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) after the Nevada Career Studio took her and other students on a tour of the museum. During the tour, Aiman recalls staff members telling her and her fellow students to come back to the museum after they’d graduated and started their job hunt, and that’s exactly what she did upon finishing her degree in 2021.
Aiman grew up in Northern California, coming to Reno to further her education at UNR. Before she started working at The Discovery in February 2022, Aiman worked at UNR’s letterpress studio ‘Black Rock Press’ while completing her degree. In addition to her job here at the museum, Aiman also works as a lab assistant in UNR’s printmaking studio while she prepares for graduate school.
Visitor Service Representatives like Aiman are responsible for creating a first impression of warmth and welcome for all The Discovery’s visitors. Her favorite part about working in this position is being able to interact with everyone who comes through our doors, as she has the privilege of being one of the very first people that visitors interact with during their visit.
As for the museum’s future, Aiman hopes to see growth from the museum’s new outreach program and the benefits it can provide. Growing up where she did, Aiman felt that there weren’t any places like The Discovery nearby, nor was there much awareness of such places being accessible to the community at all. With that in mind, Aiman hopes that as The Discovery expands its reach, we’re able to create greater awareness about places like the museum to create endless possibilities for the community as a whole.
