10:00am - 5:00pm There’s always more to discover!
The Discovery loves to see its employees climb the ladder of success, and when it comes to giving it your all, Lauren Landman is a prime example. A five-year veteran at The Discovery, Lauren has helped the fundraising team achieve incredible goals, with plenty more on the agenda to be accomplished.
Lauren grew up in Henderson, Nevada, just outside of Las Vegas. After attending the College of Southern Nevada (CSN), she eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in counseling and psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Before her move to Reno, Lauren worked as a front desk clerk at the Mirage Hotel & Casino. During that time, she began volunteering for a small nonprofit called Myositis Support and Understanding (MSU).
After moving to Reno in 2017, Lauren was in search of a unique nonprofit organization to work for. She came across a job opportunity at The Discovery and in May of 2018 was hired as a Visitor Services Representative. Just one year later, Lauren found herself on the fundraising team as a Development Associate. Since then, Lauren has secured a position at the museum as a Development Officer, a role she initially fell into and didn’t know what to expect.
“What I’ve learned is that being in fundraising is hard work but very rewarding. The best part of my job is connecting with people from our community and learning their stories and motivation for supporting The Discovery.”
Lauren has been lucky enough to connect with some amazing people in the Reno area, some of whom she used to greet when she worked at the admissions desk!
When it comes to the future of The Discovery, Lauren hopes to see the kids who love spending time here express the same joy and excitement when they come back as adults. Happy with what the museum has accomplished in the last eleven years, she is confident that we will continue to be the best place to experience science in Reno.
Outside of work, Lauren enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, Stephen, and her two dogs, Darla, and Frank. She also enjoys doing yoga, running, reading, and more recently, creative writing. She also has a big sweet-tooth and enjoys Double Doubles from In-N-Out Burger (but hold the veggies).
Lauren has a unique role in that she gets to continuously share the exciting things happening at The Discovery, all while connecting with the amazing and generous people who support the museum. Next time you visit, stop by to say hello to her!
