10:00am - 5:00pm There’s always more to discover!
The Discovery is excited to present The Gills Club: Shark Exploration, a free program offered in partnership with the Gills Club on Saturday, July 13th designed to teach girls in 3rd through 7th grades all about the magic of sharks through various hands-on activities.
The Gills Club is an initiative of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy that focuses on empowering young girls to pursue careers in shark and marine science. Harnessing girls’ passion for sharks, nature, and the environment, the Gills Club offers the opportunity to engage in projects focused on making a significant impact on how the public perceives sharks.
Girls in attendance will be able to engage in shark-themed programming led by Maggie McClain, Gills Club scientist and The Discovery’s Museum Education Coordinator. Maggie holds a master’s degree in biology, with all the shark expertise and enthusiasm needed to guide participants through exploring shark anatomy, understanding how shark vertebrae can indicate age, and even performing a necropsy to study the internal anatomy of a shark.
Shark Exploration with the Gills Club is just one of the many compelling community collaborations The Discovery has implemented to teach young learners about different types of science they otherwise may not have discovered living in Nevada. Mat Sinclair, President/CEO of The Discovery, found The Gills Club: Shark Exploration to be, “an amazing collaboration that allows us to dive deep into the fascinating lives of sharks and their importance in marine ecosystems.”
Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity for your child to explore the fascinating world of sharks and develop a greater appreciation for marine life. Register now to enjoy an unforgettable day of hands-on learning and expert insights at The Discovery.
