The Discovery is proud to welcome community members Rebecca Reyes and Jay Karpen to the board of directors.
Reyes works at Northern Nevada HOPES, a nonprofit health center that works to provide affordable and high-quality medical, behavioral health, and support services for the Northern Nevada community. In addition to her work at HOPES, Rebecca is part of the Community of Bilingual English-Spanish Speakers (CBESS) Community of Practice, a program that seeks to increase the number of bilingual English-Spanish students who pursue paths in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM)-healthcare fields such as biomedical, behavioral, and clinical careers.
Karpen is an assistant vice president with Whittier Trust Company of Nevada, where he supports the senior portfolio managers with constructing and managing client portfolios across equities, fixed income, and alternative assets. He will serve on The Discovery’s finance committee. Jay was previously an Investment Manager at City of Hope, where he helped oversee a $3 billion portfolio across asset classes, including global equities, fixed income, private equity, real assets and hedge funds. Prior to City of Hope, he was the Treasurer and Manager of Alternatives at M. Safra & Co. Inc., a multi-billion-dollar family office in New York.
Reyes and Karpen join the Board which is led by chair, Stacy Kendall, and vice chair, Sarah Porter.
