In this final event in the 2023 series, Science Distilled departs from Earth and takes you on a journey to explore the beyond. Join our speakers as they share stories about quantum theory, astrobiology, and how the research of life in extreme environments on Earth can give us clues about where to look for life beyond our planet.

Duane Moser, Ph.D., Microbiologist, DRI
Dr. Moser is an environmental scientist who works at the interface of life and Earth sciences. Expertise includes astrobiology, biogeochemistry, public health microbiology, emerging contaminants, archaeology, and conservation biology.
Henry Sun, Ph.D., Microbiologist, DRI
Dr. Sun is an Associate Research Professor at DRI, he studies life in extreme environments and new approaches to planetary life detection.
Yasif Barlas, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Physics, UNR
Yafis Barlas is a condensed matter theorist in the physics department at the University of Reno, Nevada. He received his doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008. He joined the faculty of the University of Nevada Reno in 2019. He develops models to understand and study the physics of two-dimensional crystals, superconductivity, and topological and correlated states of matter.
