Galen Schmidt has always loved donuts. While traveling throughout the United States, he and his wife Cadi visited several shops and wondered if Reno would support a specialty donut shop. After more than a year of planning, construction and menu development, the couple has opened Holey Schmidt Donuts in the dedicated restaurant space at The Discovery.

Holey Schmidt is Reno’s first specialty donut shop, and will offer 50 to 75 unique flavors daily. Flavors and toppings ranging from Oreo cheesecake to Nutella, marshmallow to peanut butter, and nearly every cereal and candy bar flavor you can think of. Donut traditionalists shouldn’t be discouraged, as Holey Schmidt’s menu also includes a selection of old school flavors.
Nothing pairs with donuts better than a good cup of coffee, so Holey Schmidt serves locally roasted Old World Coffee and expertly prepares lattes, mochas, espresso, and more.
In addition to the incredible variety of donuts and delicious coffee, guests will enjoy the relaxing, fun atmosphere that includes several photo ops and activities to keep kids busy.
“We wanted a family-oriented atmosphere, but a shop that would also serve varying crowds throughout the day,” said Cadi Schmidt. “We love serving kids and families during the day, and we’ll be open until 11:00pm for adults with late night cravings.”
Galen and Cadi have both lived in Reno for most of their lives. They love the people and culture of our region, and feel strongly about contributing to the efforts to make it a better place to live. They both admit to being serial entrepreneurs, and Holey Schmidt is their first brick and mortar business. Their desire is to support their family in a way that gives them the freedom to include their kids and teach them the value of a strong work ethic.
Holey Schmidt Donuts is located at 490 S. Center Street in downtown Reno, in the dedicated restaurant space at The Discovery, and will be open 5:00am to 11:00pm seven days a week.
