When most kids prepare for a birthday celebration, their minds are filled with thoughts of balloons, cake, games, and gifts! When Leo Klatt recently turned 8, he celebrated with us here at the museum, but he gave his birthday gifts to The Discovery!
Leo is an ambitious and imaginative young man, and he loves The Discovery. When asked what an exhibition he would design might look like he explained, “It would be about dreams. Kids could see their dreams on a big screen and then play in their dream like it was a video game.”
For his 8th birthday celebration, he invited friends and classmates to join him at The Discovery. He was certain his guests would enjoy the party because it meant they could explore the museum he loves so much. When the invitations went out, rather than accept gifts, he asked everyone to donate to The Discovery. The result: the museum received more than $1,500 in donations in Leo’s honor.
When asked why he decided to suggest everyone donate to The Discovery, Leo replied,
“Because it is a great place for kids to have fun and learn about the world.”
All of us here at The Discovery are grateful Leo celebrated his big day with us and for the generosity he showed by asking his party guests to support the museum.
