A: Yes, The Discovery is a WCSD educational partner. A field trip to The Discovery is considered an enriching educational experience by the Washoe County School District.
A: Yes, Discovery Labs offered during school field trips are age-appropriate and aligned to NGSS standards.
A: Field trips are available Tuesday through Sunday. Field trips are available on Mondays when the museum is closed to the general public for an additional fee. Please let our staff know you are interested in this option when you schedule your field trip.
A: The Discovery requires 1 adult (age 18+) chaperone for every 10 students. There is no admission charge for required chaperones.
A: The best way to schedule your field trip with us is to fill out the field trip request form online . Once completed, a member of our staff will email you back with the availability of the dates you selected. Once you select a date you will receive a short field trip agreement. After The Discovery receives this agreement you will receive confirmation that your field trip date is reserved. At this stage, if you are a WCSD school, you will then need to follow the required procedure to book your transportation to the museum. WCSD transportation department will invoice The Discovery.
A: Charter schools can reserve a field trip to The Discovery using the School District per-student cost if they are chartered by WCSD.
A: Unfortunately, we do not have funding to cover transportation costs for private schools or schools outside of Washoe County School District.
A: Transportation is included for charter schools authorized to use WCSD busses. Once your field trip date is confirmed, make your bus reservation through the WCSD transportation department an ask them to invoice The Discovery.
