10:00am - 8:00pm There’s always more to discover!
Since joining The Discovery in July, Kim Spiersch has become a vital member of the team, bringing extensive experience, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for nonprofit work.
Kim first heard about the opportunity to join the team at The Discovery through the museum’s auditor, who knew she’d eventually be looking for a new challenge. “I wasn’t quite ready to find a new job,” Kim shares, “but I knew I wanted to continue working with a nonprofit. When I learned about The Discovery, I knew it was the right fit.”
As the Director of Finance, Kim makes sure the museum’s financial operations run smoothly behind the scenes. But what she enjoys most isn’t just the numbers; it’s the people.
“I love being a contributing member of a team,” she says. “My door is always open, so everyone can feel comfortable coming to me with their finance questions.”
Before joining The Discovery, Kim spent over fifteen years working with United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra. She has also been involved with The Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts and The Nevada Opera Association. She even worked at her family’s local business, P and S Hardware, which her husband’s father originally started. Her roots in Reno’s nonprofit and small-business communities demonstrate her commitment to helping organizations thrive in northern Nevada.
Kim hopes to see The Discovery continue to expand its reach. “I’d love for more northern Nevadans outside of Reno and Sparks to experience what makes this place so special,” she says. “Our featured exhibitions and monthly programs are truly unique—they offer something fun and inspiring for kids and adults alike.”
When she’s not balancing budgets, Kim can be found cheering on her family at mountain bike and dirt bike races, where she proudly serves as the “pit crew.” Her family loves spending time at Pyramid Lake, and she and her husband share their home with two energetic Australian Shepherds, three chickens, and a tarantula. They’re also excited to welcome their seventh grandchild this November.
