10:00am - 5:00pm There’s always more to discover!
Laura Elmore is new to northern Nevada and new to The Discovery, but by no means new to nonprofit fundraising. Laura moved to Reno from northern California to be closer to her daughter and has recently joined The Discovery as Senior Development Officer, Individual and Family Giving.
Laura has 20 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and marketing, 10 years focused on raising funds for hands-on, informal STEM education programs. Prior to joining The Discovery, Laura served as the Director of Development for Jack London Park Partners in Glen Ellen, California, focusing on grants, major donors, events and corporate giving. Before her tenure at Jack London Park Partners, she served as Director of Development for Saturday Academy in Portland, Oregon.
Laura is passionate about STEM education and a firm believer in lifelong learning. When asked what drew her to The Discovery, Laura replied,
“The Discovery’s mission is aligned with my values. Connecting the community with science through dynamic, fun and interactive programming is a gift we can offer kids and adults alike.”
Laura relocated to Reno in September 2024 to spend more time with her daughter, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Nevada, Reno studying archaeology in the Great Basin. Laura also enjoys hiking and appreciates the variety of desert and mountain trails our region provides.
In 2021, Laura tackled a bucket list item by traveling across the country to 62 of our nation’s 63 National Parks. She completed the bucket list trip in 2024, when she visited park number 63, American Samoa National Park.
Laura is looking forward to helping The Discovery continue to strive for its mission to inspire by being the place to experience science. She said,
“I look forward to seeing the impact of the regional outreach program, allowing students living in rural communities in Nevada and Northeastern California, who might not have the opportunity to visit the museum, the chance to engage with our interactive science programs.”
