10:00am - 5:00pm There’s always more to discover!
When it comes to making The Discovery an enriching experience, there’s no denying that our Museum Educators play a pivotal role. Among them is Odalys Maldonado who, after joining our team in March of 2023, has contributed greatly to the inclusive interactions with community members we strive to serve on a daily basis.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, Odalys made her way to Reno in 2020 to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science at the University of Nevada, Reno. Before landing her educator role at The Discovery, Odalys found a unique love for nonprofit organizations after working as an assistant teacher in a before/after-school program at the Kings Row Community Life Center. In addition to her work as a Museum Educator, she has found herself an additional role at The Discovery as our Art Alcove Coordinator, designing all the create-and-take art projects found at the museum.
Odalys’ love for engaging with museum visitors of all demographics shines through with every interaction she has, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere that resonates with everyone who visits The Discovery. Her favorite part of the job is engaging with the diverse community through spirited and inclusive interaction with individuals of all ages.
“I love to share positive and playful moments. This helps me create connections and memories I never thought I needed. I thank this wonderful museum for providing that for me and allowing me to provide it right back.”
In Odalys’ mind, making every visitor’s experience here fun and memorable is a key aspect of her role. Odalys’ positive outlook and drive to help the community are reflected in her hopes for the future of The Discovery. She envisions our space continuing to be inclusive for everyone, especially those in the community who may not have the privilege to experience something as impactful as The Discovery.
She also has an inspiring message for everyone to remember. “Take advantage of time. You are worthy of having fun and letting go when you get the chance! No matter the age, we are here to create, build, innovate, and learn through discovery, so let’s go!” If you see Odalys during your next trip to The Discovery, don’t be afraid to say hello, and thank her for all her hard work!
