12:00pm - 5:00pm There’s always more to discover!
The diverse backgrounds and skills of The Discovery’s employees is part of what makes the museum such an amazing place. Whether their expertise is science-based or not, the unique qualities of our staff members contribute significantly to the growth of both the museum and our visitors. Among these remarkable individuals is Gory Lipsey. Currently a year and a half into his tenure at The Discovery, Gory’s love of museums has allowed him to “blow minds for a living” as a museum educator.
Gory was born in Atlanta, Georgia but has spent most of his life in California and Nevada. Prior to his time at The Discovery, Gory worked as a writer in television, video games, and educational curriculum, at one point even writing for a Spider-Man cartoon. As a big supporter of museums, Gory seeks them out in every city he travels to, which is what lead him to The Discovery. As a museum educator, Gory takes pride in teaching visitors about science by doing different demonstrations and answering questions presented to him by curious learners.
“People should know when they come to The Discovery they are going to find something new and surprising. If they don’t, they should come find me and I will show them something that makes them think twice.”
Gory, like so many of our staff members, envisions a future where The Discovery continues to embrace bold, shared principles and explores fundamental questions of the universe. He believes that discovery is an essential part of the human experience that provides common ground we can all stand on.
