U.S. Bank Foundation Supports The Discovery

The U.S. Bank Foundation has generously supported The Discovery’s Field Trip program for the fourth year in a row. Michael Heath, Business Relationship Manager at U.S. Bank and Board Member at The Discovery, has helped steward the U.S. Bank Foundation’s funding of $22,000 over the last four years to support increased access to educational programming opportunities in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) concepts at The Discovery.

The Discovery’s Financial Assistance Program provides either full or partial financial assistance to families and schools that do not have resources to afford the total cost of The Discovery’s programs. Thanks to the generous support and partnership of the U.S. Bank Foundation, The Discovery has been able to serve low-income families, at-risk youth, and schools with 50% or higher Free and Reduced Lunch Program eligibility in our Northern Nevada community.

The U.S. Bank Foundation’s funding over the last four years has supported partial or full financial assistance for school field trips, general admission passes, household memberships and Camp Discovery sessions for those most in need.

Specifically, the U.S. Bank Foundation has enabled 1,789 Pre-K through 8^th grade students from low-income schools to visit The Discovery on a field trip.

23 K-7^th grade children have been able to attend up to two weeks of Camp Discovery sessions at a maximum rate of $275 per child, per 5-day camp. That’s over $6,000 in Camp Discovery Financial Assistance support alone!

The U.S. Bank Foundation also helped us award six families with an annual membership to the museum in addition to nearly $500 in daily admission passes for low-income families.

The Discovery provides brief financial assistance application forms online and in-person in both Spanish and English, which are reviewed monthly by an interdepartmental committee of three staff members, including the museum’s President/CEO. We also work with social services and other nonprofit organizations to ensure this target demographic is being reached.
