Austin Sweet has always loved science museums. When he was growing up in Reno, a highlight of his summers was an annual trip with the Gifted and Talented program to San Francisco to visit the Exploratorium. Now, after joining The Discovery’s Board of Directors, Austin is excited to help shape the future of Northern Nevada’s home for informal science learning.
Austin joined the museum’s board in December 2016. When he learned about the progress the museum has made in the six years since opening to the public, he reached out to connections in the community to find out how he could get involved. In addition to a personal affinity for science museums, Austin also has two daughters who enjoy The Discovery and are curious about the world around them.
“I think The Discovery will continue to grow in support and sophistication. Each traveling exhibition adds an element of depth to the experience at The Discovery, and each new permanent exhibit is an improvement on the last. I hope The Discovery will continue to attract a wider range of guests as the exhibits evolve, and that it receives the recognition it deserves as one of Northern Nevada’s premier tourist attractions.”
Austin is currently an Associate Attorney at Gunderson Law Firm in Reno, Nevada. He helps individuals and businesses navigate a wide variety of business, contract, and real estate issues, transactions, and disputes. Throughout his career he has earned a number of accolades including AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, Mountain States Rising Star (awarded by Thompson Reuters Super Lawyers), Nevada’s Legal Elite (awarded by Nevada Business Magazine), and Twenty Under 40 (awarded by Reno Gazette-Journal and Young Professionals Network).
In his free time, Austin and his family enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. He and his family are regular skiers, hikers, campers, rock climbers, runners, and can also be found on the soccer fields in the area.
