Nearly 1,400 runners/walkers turn out for the 5th annual Leprechaun Race
The 5th annual Leprechaun Race, a 5k run/walk held on Sunday, March 12th, raised $5,417 for the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery).
“Turnout for this year’s Leprechaun Race was the second highest we’ve seen in the race’s history,” said Eric Lerude, President of Race178. “We’re proud to have created a family-friendly event that showcases the Wells Avenue, West of Wells and Midtown neighborhoods, and benefits an important community asset like The Discovery.”
The event includes a leprechaun who, after giving all participants a generous head start, races to the finish. Racers who beat the leprechaun to the finish line receive a prize.
Race178, who owns and organizes the Leprechaun Race as well as other local races including the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, made a $5,000 contribution to The Discovery—$1 for each of the 1,301 participants the leprechaun passed during the race, plus an additional donation of $3,699. An additional $417 was donated by race entrants when they registered.
“The Discovery is very grateful for the support Race178 provides,” said Mat Sinclair, President/CEO of The Discovery. “Over the past five years, Race178 has provided more than $25,000 in support of the museum’s mission to create interest and engagement in science.”
