12:00pm - 5:00pm There’s always more to discover!
The Discovery welcomed more than 200 teens to its second annual Teen Science Night on Friday, March 10. Originally developed as an event catering specifically to high school students, Teen Science Night opened its doors this year to teens ages 13-17 in order to help create awareness of the role The Discovery can play in students’ learning and career path decisions.
The night consisted of art projects that allowed teens to explore their creativity, robotics demonstrations for those with a fascination with engineering, interactive science demonstrations, and music by DJ Crave that kick-started an energetic dance party featuring the one-and-only Discovery Dino! Teens completed fun activities like button-making, LED greeting cards (using circuits), fantastic thermoplastic, conducting robot wars, flying drones, competing in video games, testing a giant slingshot, and participating in a traveling photo booth. The event was a non-stop teen-empowering night of science and fun!
Teen Science Night is organized by teens, for teens! The Discovery is proud to recognize its very own Teen Advisory Committee, made up of middle and high school students from the community, for their great accomplishment in hosting this successful night of science and discovery for the second year in a row. The Teen Advisory Committee is dedicated to developing and implementing activities that will engage teens interested in the science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) concepts. In order to make this night affordable and engage a large number of teens in the community, tickets were set at just $5!
Teen Science Night was, once again, a huge success, and we can’t wait to provide more opportunities for teens to enjoy The Discovery while exploring STEAM in the months and years to come! Stay tuned teens….
