InThe Shop, hands-on gets serious—visitors can use real tools and materials that are certain to encourage creativity and ingenuity. Visitors are encouraged to tinker, repurpose, upcycle, take apart, put back together and anything else to make a discovery or creation all their own.
Position Summary
Volunteers will help unleash the creative potential of visitors through the use of innovative tools and materials that are provided in The Shop. In collaboration with Museum Educators, Volunteers will support and guide visitors of all ages (children under supervision) in the safe use of the tools and supplies while encouraging them to learn, grow, and create.

NO previous skills of building are needed, only an eagerness to learn how to work with tools that are both conventional and innovative
Ability to work one-on-one with visitors to help them construct their project
Typical Duties
Assisting visitors with the project of the day
Monitoring for safe use of tools and equipment
Alerting museum staff to safety concerns or low supplies
Organizing the work areas and tool cabinets, making sure the visitors have a clean workstation to construct their projects
Helping with set up and tidying the daily activities
Minimum Requirements
For this position, orientation and a one-time training session are required. Candidate must be available to volunteer a minimum two-hour shift, twice a month. A background check and drug screening are required prior to the start of volunteering.
